Week 2 and 3: Tool of Art Plan and How it Went 2016

I want to get a board where it states the weather, day of the week, month, letter of the week, we’ll also practice numbers by what day it is (Jan 4th).  I may try to incorporate colors weekly.  I may add more, but that is all I can think of right now.  I’m debating about making one or buying one still.  I’m not super crafty, so I’m thinking I may buy one. Almost all of the books we read are Usborne Books. We are in LOVE with them!  I also sell them, so if you would like more info. let me know! :)  Starting next time, I’m just going to have the link to my Usborne website right here only and have pictures of the books.  Then if you want to check them out you can click the link and search the name of the book.

Week 2/3: Tools of Art Plan

January 10th-16th 2016 (17th-23rd)
This month we are studying Art and we’re studying about the art of music this week.  These lesson plans are mostly for my 2.5 year old son, but I’m adapting them to my 8 month old daughter.  They can be adapted for any age.  I have more ideas on pinterest:

Monday 1.11.16 Books Plan
We’ll use a couple different books.  Monkey and Friends is a beautiful illustrated (artsy) paint book.  I have a couple books on art that we’ll check out, all Usborne Books because I have a ton!!  :)  I’m a Dirty Dinosaur also because it’s painted with real mud! :)  My weekend is busy with an Usborne Booth, so we’ll probably go on our field trip to the Curiosity Museum today.
1.18.15
So, this day we will just be reading books mentioned above.  I’ll also add I’m a hungry dinosaur because it was painted with flour, cocoa, and sprinkles! :)
How it Went:
We did this Tuesday instead of Monday. We also looked at My Very First Art Book. http://h4006.myubam.com/p/1143/my-very-first-art-book   It has lots of ideas of what to use to make art as well as some fun colors and famous art.  I LOVE this book.  We had some much fun moving around to I’m a dirty dinosaur! I love that it’s illustrated with mud!  http://h4006.myubam.com/p/3738/im-a-dirty-dinosaur  We also liked reading I’m a Hungry Dinosaur!  It’s illustrated with sprinkles and cocoa! http://h4006.myubam.com/p/5547/im-a-hungry-dinosaur The other book we used is called Monkey’s Friends!  The art is beautiful!!  I don’t know if the photo below does is justice.  http://h4006.myubam.com/p/1436/monkeys-friends There are sooo many amazing art Usborne books. There are some that are done with colored pencils that are are just beautiful.  The Monkey’s Friends looks sponged with paint.

Tuesday 1.12.16 Library/Learning
We’ll talk about some of the tools we can use to make art.  Specifically paint, chalk crayons, paint, markers, and colored pencils (those ones probably the most since those are the ones we’ll use the most).  I’ll also mention clay, metals, wood, and glass.  I also want to show my son a couple different mediums of art, so I’ll probably look up some pictures as well.  We’ll probably also attend storytime this morning. I also want to show him some other things I bought that we can make are with, feathers, buttons, colored paper, etc.  I want him to learn to be creative.
1.19.15
We are also planning to go to the library today.
How it Went:
We did our art activity today instead of Thursday!  Here’s a link to the Usborne book we used: https://h4006.myubam.com/p/4814/fingerprint-activities
We made dinosaurs with our fingerprints and the ink pad that comes with this book!  My son loved it!  We’ll probably make more when we study dinosaurs in couple months.  There is also a new book that came out Fingerprint Activities Animals that we’ll use to make some animals when we study them!

Wednesday 1.13.16 Music/Library 1.20.15
We’ll definitely go to music time and afterwards we’ll discuss how music is part of art.  How the words to a song leave an impression, how it can make you want to dance, etc.  At some point, I should probably define art for him.  I think of it as an expression of yourself.  At least those are the pieces of art that speak to me the most when someone is expressing themselves.
1.20.15
We will be going to Thanksgiving Point’s Museum of Ancient Life and maybe also the Museum of Natural Curiosity, we’ll play with some of the music at that the second museum mentioned.
How it Went:
We’ve been sick this week, so we didn’t go to the museum.  Instead we did an activity Thursday.

Thursday 1.14.16 Activity/Art
We’re going to use several different mediums/tools.  Probably all of the main ones we’ll discuss mentioned above.  We’ll experiment and see which ones we really like.
1.21.15
I’ll probably let my 8 month old experiment a little bit too.
How it Went:
I probably could have just counted our fingerprinting with ink pads for our art, but we also put paint on a piece of paper and then inside of a ziplock bag and mushed it around.  I’m pretty sure I had more fun with this than the kids ;)  The bonus was no mess to clean up.  Next time I do this, we’ll use more paint.  Also, I’ll get it ready and then have them do it, not have the wait for me to get it ready.

Livie's after, she didn't get to play much because she was trying to eat the bag. :)

Friday 1.15.16 Field Trip/Food
This is a SUPER busy day for me, so we’ll  probably do something lowkey like talk about the colors of the food he’s eating and how some people draw pictures of food.
1.22.15
We’ll be going to Thanksgiving Point again!  We’ll probably point out some colors there and experiment with sand.
How it Went:
We did get to go to Thanksgiving Point, but we weren’t able to do anything in the art room, it was too crowded.  We unfortunately didn’t get to do anything art related, but he had fun running around.
Saturday 1.16.16 Science/Sensory
I’m pretty much going to be gone ALL day!  If I get a chance, I’ll let my daughter touch and experiment with the different mediums, but not too closely open, they’ll all go in her mouth.
For my son’s science experiment, I’m trying to decide what to do.  We may melt some crayons blow dryers.  We may do layered liquids; water (with food coloring), honey, and oil, but I would want to find a better water bottle to keep them in so they could continue to play with them!  We also might do a surface tension experiment.  All of which can be found in two Usborne Books; 50 Science Things to Make and Do and 365 Science Activities.  Since I don't really have time Saturday, we may do these things on

Wednesday.
1.23.15
I’m hoping will get to these today, we may not because I’m helping a friend with an Usborne party.
How it went:
Today was a crazy day, so we didn’t get to science, but we did enjoy the fruits of another science experiment we did in one the books pictured above.  We made the beginnings of sugar crystals!  My son loved eating it!
