Week 5: My Body Plan and How it Went 2016

I want to get a board where it states the weather, day of the week, month, letter of the week, we’ll also practice numbers by what day it is (Jan 4th).  I may try to incorporate colors weekly.  I may add more, but that is all I can think of right now.  I’m debating about making one or buying one still.  I’m not super crafty, so I’m thinking I may buy one. Almost all of the books we read are Usborne Books. We are in LOVE with them!  I also sell them, so if you would like more info. let me know! :)  Starting next time, I’m just going to have the link to my Usborne website right here only and have pictures of the books.  Then if you want to check them out you can click the link and search the name of the book.  Here’s the link: h4006.myubam.com

Week 5: My Body

January 31st-February 6th
This month we are studying All About Me and we’re studying about the our bodies this week.  These lesson plans are mostly for my 2.5 year old son, but I’m adapting them to my 8 month old daughter.  They can be adapted for any age.  I have more ideas on Pinterest.  This week we learned about the number 2 and the letter C.  My son knows he's 2 years old.  We talked about words that start with the letter C! :)

Monday 2.1.16 Books
We have A LOT of body books, but a few of them are out of stock right now including two that I ordered, so we won’t be using See Inside Your Body and Look Inside Your Body, but we will be using the Flip Flap Body Book.  I think we also have the Human Body Sticker Book.  We’ll also be using a new title All About Me throughout the month of February.  I want to get the new title. Big Book of the Body.  We won’t be going to Thanksgiving Point this day. Another new title that has some body learning is My first 100 words, we’ll use that for my 8 month old daughter's learning.
How it Went:
Well, unfortunately this week was filled with sickness among other business and we only did our daily plans on Monday and skipped out the rest of the week.  We read one of the 9 little board books My First 100 Words called People, we read All About Me, and we looked at and talked about a couple pages from the Human Body Sticker book.  We’ll probably read Flip Flap Body Book today.  I found out my son knows most of his body parts, but it’s hard for him to remember ankles, wrists, etc.  We read the books with his baby sister, so I had him point to her eyes, nose, tummy, etc.  Hopefully that helped her learn a little too.  I think we’ll sing Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes today as well and I know we’ll have a dance party fairly soon! :)

Tuesday 2.2.16 Library/Learning
We’ll talk about our bodies.  We’ll talk about some of the different components of our bodies; blood, bones, muscles, etc.  We’ll probably use the Flip Flap Body Book and maybe The Usborne Children’s Encyclopedia for our learning as well.

Wednesday 2.3.16 Music/Library
We will OF COURSE sing Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes!  We’re also planning to attend the libraries music and movement time.

Thursday 2.4.16 Activity/Art
Since we missed our dance party last week, we’ll probably do it this day!  We might talk a little bit about how we can move our bodies. We might also do fingerprint activities again since he LOVED it so much last time!

Friday 2.5.16 Field Trip/Food
We’re planning to go the Thanksgiving Point.  We may try to go to the farm part, I’m not sure, but I know my son will want to go to the dinosaur party.  We might not be able to though because I have something at noon. We’ll see.

Saturday 2.6.16 Science/Sensory
I'm thinking we’re going to do the Living things and cells and pg 44 of 365 Science Activities for my son.  I’m not sure what we’ll do for my daughter, I haven’t loved the sensory ideas I’ve found for her.

Week 4: Dance 2016 Plan

I want to get a board where it states the weather, day of the week, month, letter of the week, we’ll also practice numbers by what day it is (Jan 4th).  I may try to incorporate colors weekly.  I may add more, but that is all I can think of right now.  I’m debating about making one or buying one still.  I’m not super crafty, so I’m thinking I may buy one. Week 4: Dance

January 24th-30th
This month we are studying Art and we’re studying about the art of dance this week.  These lesson plans are mostly for my 2.5 year old son, but I’m adapting them to my 8 month old daughter.  They can be adapted for any age.  I have more ideas on pinterest.

Monday 1.25.16 Books
We borrowed a book called Little Ballerina Dancing book.  It’s kind of girl for my son, but it will help him understand that there are different kinds of dance.  I’m not sure if we own any books that have to do with dancing.  We may have some sticker books (shown below), I’ll have to check.  I just remembered I do have the Little Artists books and one of them is about a little girl who loves to dance!
Picture of Little Ballerina Dancing Book with CDPicture of Classical Music Sticker Book

How it Went:
We did read some of these books, most of them were a little girly for my son.  He also got a little bored with them because of the girly issue, haha!
Picture of Sticker Dolly Dressing Ballerinas This is the other book we used.
Tuesday 1.126.16 Library/Learning
We’re planning to go to the library if we’re feeling all better.  I thought the kiddos were all better and then their runny noses and coughs came back!  We’ll talk about dance and some of the different kinds.  We’ll talk about how music can influence dance.
How it Went:
This was my favorite part this week.  We searched videos of different kinds of dances on the internet.  We looked for quite awhile.  He would start to get bored with one and we would switch to another.  It was fun to see what kinds of dance, dress, and music he was uncomfortable with.  I didn’t realized how much he understands socially and culturally.  The link below was our favorite.

Wednesday 1.27.16 Music/Library
I’m really hoping we’ll be all better to go to music time!  He loves to dance and it’s a music and movement class!
How it Went:
We did go, but instead of paying attention, him and a couple friends chased each other around the room!  There was a couple times where we paid attention or followed along.  I was fine with it though, please get all that energy out! ;)

Thursday 1.28.16 Activity/Art
We’re totally having a dance party!!  We do that often anyway, but maybe we’ll put on different kinds of music and do or talk about some different kinds of dance.
How it Went:
We were about to do this, but we had to eat dinner and I had to leave pretty quick after nap time so we didn’t get to it. :(  Next week!

Friday 1.29.16 Field Trip/Food
My husband may take them on a field trip, but I have Regionals for Usborne this day, so I’m not going to plan anything.
How it Went:
Regionals was awesome!  One thing I learned about parenting from one of my upline leaders is if your child says something to their sibling, have them repeat it until it’s nice.  One way you can have nice children! :)

Saturday 1.30.16 Science/Sensory
Same with Saturday, I’ll be gone all day because of Regionals.  I may get home in time to read the Little Ballerina book (pictured above) to my daughter.  That would could as a sensory for us since I’ll be gone ALL day.
How it Went:
Again Regionals was super inspirational and fantastic!  My favorite thing that applies to parenting:  you are NOT a failure!  Failure is an event, not a person.  We have to make mistakes to get to success.  We can all be successful parents (or Usborne Consultants or whatever you do), we just need to keep trying and do our best.  We define Failure and Success.

Week 2 and 3: Tool of Art Plan and How it Went 2016

I want to get a board where it states the weather, day of the week, month, letter of the week, we’ll also practice numbers by what day it is (Jan 4th).  I may try to incorporate colors weekly.  I may add more, but that is all I can think of right now.  I’m debating about making one or buying one still.  I’m not super crafty, so I’m thinking I may buy one. Week 2/3: Tools of Art Plan

January 10th-16th 2016 (17th-23rd)
This month we are studying Art and we’re studying about the art of music this week.  These lesson plans are mostly for my 2.5 year old son, but I’m adapting them to my 8 month old daughter.  They can be adapted for any age.  I have more ideas on pinterest:

Monday 1.11.16 Books Plan
We’ll use a couple different books.  Monkey and Friends is a beautiful illustrated (artsy) paint book.  I have a couple books on art that we’ll check out, all Usborne Books because I have a ton!!  :)  I’m a Dirty Dinosaur also because it’s painted with real mud! :)  My weekend is busy with an Usborne Booth, so we’ll probably go on our field trip to the Curiosity Museum today.
1.18.15
So, this day we will just be reading books mentioned above.  I’ll also add I’m a hungry dinosaur because it was painted with flour, cocoa, and sprinkles! :)
How it Went:
We did this Tuesday instead of Monday. We also looked at My Very First Art Book. http://h4006.myubam.com/p/1143/my-very-first-art-book   It has lots of ideas of what to use to make art as well as some fun colors and famous art.  I LOVE this book.  We had some much fun moving around to I’m a dirty dinosaur! I love that it’s illustrated with mud!  http://h4006.myubam.com/p/3738/im-a-dirty-dinosaur  We also liked reading I’m a Hungry Dinosaur!  It’s illustrated with sprinkles and cocoa! http://h4006.myubam.com/p/5547/im-a-hungry-dinosaur The other book we used is called Monkey’s Friends!  The art is beautiful!!  I don’t know if the photo below does is justice.  http://h4006.myubam.com/p/1436/monkeys-friends There are sooo many amazing art Usborne books. There are some that are done with colored pencils that are are just beautiful.  The Monkey’s Friends looks sponged with paint.
Some pictures from the inside of the books:

My Very First Art Book

Tuesday 1.12.16 Library/Learning
We’ll talk about some of the tools we can use to make art.  Specifically paint, chalk crayons, paint, markers, and colored pencils (those ones probably the most since those are the ones we’ll use the most).  I’ll also mention clay, metals, wood, and glass.  I also want to show my son a couple different mediums of art, so I’ll probably look up some pictures as well.  We’ll probably also attend storytime this morning. I also want to show him some other things I bought that we can make are with, feathers, buttons, colored paper, etc.  I want him to learn to be creative.
1.19.15
We are also planning to go to the library today.
How it Went:
We did our art activity today instead of Thursday!  Here’s a link to the Usborne book we used: https://h4006.myubam.com/p/4814/fingerprint-activities
We made dinosaurs with our fingerprints and the ink pad that comes with this book!  My son loved it!  We’ll probably make more when we study dinosaurs in couple months.  There is also a new book that came out Fingerprint Activities Animals that we’ll use to make some animals when we study them!

Wednesday 1.13.16 Music/Library 1.20.15
We’ll definitely go to music time and afterwards we’ll discuss how music is part of art.  How the words to a song leave an impression, how it can make you want to dance, etc.  At some point, I should probably define art for him.  I think of it as an expression of yourself.  At least those are the pieces of art that speak to me the most when someone is expressing themselves.
1.20.15
We will be going to Thanksgiving Point’s Museum of Ancient Life and maybe also the Museum of Natural Curiosity, we’ll play with some of the music at that the second museum mentioned.
How it Went:
We’ve been sick this week, so we didn’t go to the museum.  Instead we did an activity Thursday.

Thursday 1.14.16 Activity/Art
We’re going to use several different mediums/tools.  Probably all of the main ones we’ll discuss mentioned above.  We’ll experiment and see which ones we really like.
1.21.15
I’ll probably let my 8 month old experiment a little bit too.
How it Went:
I probably could have just counted our fingerprinting with ink pads for our art, but we also put paint on a piece of paper and then inside of a ziplock bag and mushed it around.  I’m pretty sure I had more fun with this than the kids ;)  The bonus was no mess to clean up.  Next time I do this, we’ll use more paint.  Also, I’ll get it ready and then have them do it, not have the wait for me to get it ready.
 Livie's before
Livie's after, she didn't get to play much because she was trying to eat the bag. :)

Friday 1.15.16 Field Trip/Food
This is a SUPER busy day for me, so we’ll  probably do something lowkey like talk about the colors of the food he’s eating and how some people draw pictures of food.
1.22.15
We’ll be going to Thanksgiving Point again!  We’ll probably point out some colors there and experiment with sand.
How it Went:
We did get to go to Thanksgiving Point, but we weren’t able to do anything in the art room, it was too crowded.  We unfortunately didn’t get to do anything art related, but he had fun running around.
Saturday 1.16.16 Science/Sensory
I’m pretty much going to be gone ALL day!  If I get a chance, I’ll let my daughter touch and experiment with the different mediums, but not too closely open, they’ll all go in her mouth.
For my son’s science experiment, I’m trying to decide what to do.  We may melt some crayons blow dryers.  We may do layered liquids; water (with food coloring), honey, and oil, but I would want to find a better water bottle to keep them in so they could continue to play with them!  We also might do a surface tension experiment.  All of which can be found in two Usborne Books; 50 Science Things to Make and Do and 365 Science Activities.  Since I don't really have time Saturday, we may do these things on
Picture of 50 Science Things to Make and DoPicture of 365 Science Activities
Wednesday.
1.23.15
I’m hoping will get to these today, we may not because I’m helping a friend with an Usborne party.
How it went:
Today was a crazy day, so we didn’t get to science, but we did enjoy the fruits of another science experiment we did in one the books pictured above.  We made the beginnings of sugar crystals!  My son loved eating it!

New Year, Renewing Goals! Week 1: Music Plan 2016

Week 1: Music Plan
Jan 3rd-9th 2016  This month we are studying Art and we’re studying about the art of music this week.  These lesson plans are mostly for my 2.5 year old son, but I’m adapting them to my 8 month old daughter.  They can be adapted for any age.  I have more ideas on pinterest:

Monday 1.4.16 Storytime/Books
We are going to attempt to go to story time tomorrow at the library at 10:30 to check it out.  They have a form of story time Monday (lap time, younger kiddos), Tuesday (story time for a little older kids), Wednesday (Music), and Friday (repeat story time for kiddos a little older).  My guess is we’ll generally go Wednesdays and Fridays, but I wanted to check out Monday as well.  I don’t know where they are at or what they are doing and learning at the library.  We may try to do the same letter they are weekly.  Also, every other week, my friend and I have our own story time on Mondays.  My kids and I will read our Usborne books about music.  Boom Bah! is the only one coming to mind right now that isn’t a holiday one.  We may bring some of our Christmas ones back out for this occasion! :) Having books Monday also gives us the opportunity to really focus and read them through the week!

Tuesday 1.5.16 Library/Learning
We are also going to the library this day to check out which story time we prefer, Tuesdays/Fridays or Mondays.  We are going to listen and learn about some of the different kinds (genres) of music.  Last year when we learned about music, my son didn’t have the attention span to sit and listen.  We’ll see this year.  My daughter will get the same thing, we’ll see if we can tell if she has preferences yet. ;)

Wednesday 1.6.16 Music
Again, we’re planning to go the library to check out the music group.  If we like it, that may be most of our learning for that day.  We’ll maybe add a couple things.  Since this week is about music, we’ll count that for our learning.

Thursday 1.7.16 Activity/Art
I think we’ll repeat last years activity.  We did hide and go seek with a music toy.  If I can’t find it, we might make musical instruments again.  We took a breast milk storage bottle and filled it with sprinkles.  If we don’t get time to do that, we’ll do one of our favorite things, a dance party.  My son loves to dance, we’ll see if my daughter we’ll like it or get into it yet. :)

Friday 1.8.16 Field Trip/Food/Library
If we miss the library Tuesday, we’ll go today.  I LOVE Fridays, so I want it to be a fun day, so we’ll try to do weekly field trips.  We have a pass to some children’s museums near us and we’ll try to incorporate what we are learning when we go to visit.  I know that one of the museums has a little music center, so that’s the plan for our field trip this week.

Saturday 1.9.16 Science/Sensory
I LOVE sensory everything, so we’ll always try to incorporate sensory for my daughter and science for my son.  I think I’ll repeat a similar sensory bin that I did for my son, but do it for my daughter.  i just put some random objects and had two different tools to bang.  I used a spoon last year and I think I’ll use that again and just see what we have.  My daughter also got a drum for Christmas, so we’ll also incorporate that.  I need to do some searching my Usborne science books to see if they have some music experiments.
