Week 19: Space Plans

I want to get a board where it states the weather, day of the week, month, letter of the week, we’ll also practice numbers by what day it is (Jan 4th).  I may try to incorporate colors weekly.  I may add more, but that is all I can think of right now.  I’m debating about making one or buying one still.  I’m not super crafty, so I’m thinking I may buy one. Almost all of the books we read are Usborne Books. We are in LOVE with them!  I also sell them, so if you would like more info. let me know! :)  If you want to check the books out that I mention, you can click the link and search the name of the book.  Here’s the link: h4006.myubam.com

Week 19: Space

August 28th - September 3rd
This month we were going to study about jobs and ‘what I want to be when I grow up’ but since we missed some weeks, we decided some other topics were more important to me or my son and one of those is Space.  These lesson plans are mostly for my 3 year old son, but I’m adapting them to my 1 year old daughter as well.  They can be adapted for any age.  I have more ideas on pinterest.

Monday 8.29.16 Books
We’ve got some excellent books on Space as well as some new titles!  We’ll be using Questions and Answers about Space, My Very First Book about Space, On the Space Station (Shine-a-light), and probably Peek Inside Space.  We possible use more, but I’m sharing more books about Space below.

Tuesday 8.30.16 Library/Learning
The story time my friend and I do hasn’t started yet, so we may go to the library this day, but we’re also going to talk about stars, galaxies, and some the the basics of space.  Since he’s been loving to color lately, he may find it fascinating that their are pictures in the sky.

Wednesday 8.31.16 Music/Library
So we are now part of a couple different groups, one of them is music, one is a preschool group, and the other 2 are sports related.  Our music group is on Thursdays, but I’m still going to keep music day on Wednesday for my son so that it goes with our weekly theme.  If/when I teach the class (a bunch of mom’s are switching off), I’ll probably theme it the same as our theme and we’ll only have music once those weeks.  There are a lot of good ones, but I prefer familiar tunes and simple since my son is now trying to sing along with us! :D

Thursday 9.1.16 Activity/Art
This is going to be hard!  There are SO many great ones!  I think I’ve narrowed it down to 3.

Nebular Galaxy Jar, we may have to do this one when he’s older: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/317503842462915546/
Food Rockets, this is the one we’ll most likely do: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/317503842463016930/

Friday 9.2.16 Field Trip/Food
I really want to take them to the planetarium!  I need to find out where and when because I may just take my son if it’s later at night.

Saturday 9.3.16 Science/Sensory
We’re going to do the Friction Tricks on pg 50 of 365 Science Activities.  It has to do with rockets!

Week 18: Dinosaurs Plan

I want to get a board where it states the weather, day of the week, month, letter of the week, we’ll also practice numbers by what day it is (Jan 4th).  I may try to incorporate colors weekly.  I may add more, but that is all I can think of right now.  I’m debating about making one or buying one still.  I’m not super crafty, so I’m thinking I may buy one. Week 18: Dinosaurs

August 14th-20th
This month we are studying about the Safety, but this week we are studying about the holiday, the 4th of July.  This topic is going to be a little harder since Usborne is a company that started in the US.  Kane Miller is another publisher that is part of Usborne and they have a few US type things.  These lesson plans are mostly for my 3 year old son, but I’m adapting them to my 1 year old daughter as well.  They can be adapted for any age.  I have more ideas on pinterest.

Monday 8.15.16 Books
We have so many great dinosaur books!  One that Lijah loves is out of print so I won’t add that one.  We love the dinosaur activity pack and will definitely be using it!  It comes with a book of how to draw dinosaurs, a sticker book, a quiz book, and dinosaur things to make and do!  We’ll probably use that for our activity!  He loves the Build your own Dinosaur sticker book as well.  We also love Big Book of Big Dinosaurs and lately he’s gotten into Questions and Answers about Dinosaurs.  Dirty Dinosaur and My very First Dinosaur book have been favorites for awhile.  We’re excited to read How to Bathe YOur Little Dinosaur!  We just got that one and Peek Inside Dinosaurs and That's Not my Dinosaur are classics!  I’m also really excited for Pop-up Dinosaurs and Slide and See Dinosaurs!  Moving on, I could talk about books all day! :D
Tuesday 8.16.16 Library/Learning
This day or Wednesday we’ll be going to the dinosaur museum at Thanksgiving Point!  My son LOVES this place! If it isn’t Tuesday we go, we’ll learn/talk a little about dinosaurs.  We might make it to the library story time today, but it’s super unlikely.

Wednesday 8.17.16 Music/Library
We’re planning to go to the Dinosaur Museum this day and Friday we’ll sing some dinosaur songs.

Thursday 8.18.16 Activity/Art
My son has been begging me to color lately.  My daughter is also getting interested.  I’m thinking we’ll just go with a coloring page!

Friday 8.19.16 Field Trip/Food
We’re going to sing some Dinosaur songs today!  We’ll sing Dinosaur, Dinosaur.  If you are anything like me, you pin stuff and check it out later.  Well that just happened.  I’ve pinned a few of Kidsparkz things, but just looked at this one and LOVED it.  It has many songs about dinosaurs to many tunes!  Perfect because I like choices.  I think we’ll do hokey pokey and they just choose whatever we feel like that day for our 3rd song!

Saturday 8.20.16 Science/Sensory
If I can find out little dinosaurs, I think we’re going to freeze a few and I’ll let my son figure out a few ways to melt the ice.  That way he is having fun, learning some science, and it’s a sensory activity! :D  We’ll do it like the pin below or individually.

Week 17: Safety and Family Plan

I want to get a board where it states the weather, day of the week, month, letter of the week, we’ll also practice numbers by what day it is (Jan 4th).  I may try to incorporate colors weekly.  I may add more, but that is all I can think of right now.  I’m debating about making one or buying one still.  I’m not super crafty, so I’m thinking I may buy one. Week 17: Safety/Family

July 17th- 23rd
This month we are studying about the Safety, but this week we are studying about the holiday, the 4th of July.  This topic is going to be a little harder since Usborne is a company that started in the US.  Kane Miller is another publisher that is part of Usborne and they have a few US type things.  These lesson plans are mostly for my 3 year old son, but I’m adapting them to my 1 year old daughter as well.  They can be adapted for any age.  I have more ideas on pinterest.

Monday 7.18.16 Books
So we don’t really have any books that have to do with safety (we need to work on that).  We’re planning to go the library to see if we can find some, we do however have some books I’ve made with my extended family and both sides of the Tippetts family.  We’ll use those more for my daughter because that’s what she is learning about this week and we’ll talk with my son more about safety.  We do have books that necessitate safety (ie. cooking with the stove, oven, and microwave).  Also, some of the dragon pictures have fire on the pages, so we may talk about and practice avoiding touching fire.  We could use an Ocean book to talk about water safety.  We could you the Cities of the World book to talk about travel safety, sticking by mom and dad, and what to do if you get lost.  Busy Trucks of the Go to talk about driving and walking around cars safety.

Tuesday 7.19.16 Library/Learning
The plan is to talk with Lijah about all sorts of safety; stranger danger, crossing the street, swimming, guns (my husband’s idea), internet safety, choking, stove and oven, health, buddy system, emergencies, fire, etc.

Wednesday 7.20.16 Music/Library
So, I found a few different songs.  The majority of them were about fire safety.
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/317503842463207921/ Stop, Drop, and Roll (I don’t recognize the name of this song, so I’m planning to look up how the song goes)

Thursday 7.21.16 Activity/Art
I think we’ll play the stop and go game and chat a little bit about crossing the street.  I also read an article not too long ago about teaching your kiddos the meaning of stop.  Every time your child says stop, you stop for example tickling them and then they’ll usually say go again.  I just really want my kids to understand if something that someone is doing makes them feel uncomfortable and they say stop, that that person should stop.  This helps their bodies and also can help protect them from danger (of running into the street).  I won’t stop to be a powerful word full of meaning in our house.

Friday 7.22.16 Field Trip/Food
We practice safety all of the time in our family, but we may walk to the park and practice crossing the street. :)

Saturday 7.23.16 Science/Sensory
We may use the oven and stove and talk about how we can get burned by things that are too hot.  Maybe we’ll cook something while we do it. :)  Then we could use or new Cook Book!

Week 16: Potty Training Plans and How it Went

I want to get a board where it states the weather, day of the week, month, letter of the week, we’ll also practice numbers by what day it is (Jan 4th).  I may try to incorporate colors weekly.  I may add more, but that is all I can think of right now.  I’m debating about making one or buying one still.  I’m not super crafty, so I’m thinking I may buy one. Almost all of the books we read are Usborne Books. Week 16: Potty Training

July 10th-16th
This month we are studying about the Safety, but this week we are studying about the Potty Training because my son has been practicing.  Any advice is welcome! :)  We’ve been sort of potty training for a few weeks now, but it’s time to get serious.  These lesson plans are mostly for my 3 year old son, but I’m adapting them to my 1 year old daughter as well.  They can be adapted for any age.  I have more ideas on pinterest.

Monday 7.11.16 Books
We will be using See Inside Your Body.  This book helped him to want to go potty in the first place.  The reason it helped him is because he was able to understand where poo and pee come from and I think he needed the visual.  Treats also help. :)  We have some great books for potty training and about the body so little ones understand what’s going on.  Everyone Poops is one of our most famous.  We will also be using A Parent’s Guide to Potty Training (which is an out of print Usborne book).  I’ll add some additional books about the body below.
How it Went:
We were planning to start this, but we didn’t end up starting, we’re just sort of starting.  We suggest to him going potty and sometimes he will.  We’re moving in less than 3 weeks and I think he will revert, so we’re just planning to wait until we move.  I think this will be better for him.  Pushing him into won’t go well because he’s very sensitive and it may turn out worse.

Tuesday 7.12.16 Library/Learning
We’ve talked quite a bit about why our bodies need to go poop and pee, so I think we’ll focus more on why it is important to go to the bathroom on the potty.  My son is very logical and if he sees the benefit for him, he is much more likely to do it.  We have a play date with  friends this day, but other than that we will be in the house all day.  We are starting underwear this day because I'm going to buy all of the supplies Monday.  I decided to wait until he was ready.  He has been able to go poop and pee on the potty several times now.  He's big enough to get on the toilet himself.  Treats have really motivated him so far.  We're going to try potty training him in 3 days, but if he's not ready, I'm not going to push it.  I don't want to make life harder on either of us.  We're planning to use underwear for regular day and diapers for naps and bedtime until we're back in our normal situation (pull-ups when we are no longer gone for the summer, but back to our other house).  We're also going to do a potty chart with stickers.  I'm planning to mini M&Ms as his potty treat.  I just wanted you to know our plan so you could see how this went for us.  According to the potty personality test we took, my son is Puppy and therefore should potty train fairly easily.  I guess we'll see.
How it Went:
We did start using M&M’s.  Sometime he prefered marshmallows. :)

Wednesday 7.13.16 Music/Library
We’re planning to go the library today.  We’re also going to sing some potty songs.  If you’ve seen the movie Parental Guidance then you may have heard the song, “Come out, come out Mr. Duty (Dudy).”  We love that show and as silly as it may seem, that will be one of our potty songs. :D
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/388013324118612611/ Poops and Pees and Tinkle Tinkle Little Star
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/317503842463115713/ This is the Way We Wash Our Hands
How it Went:
We did use the wash your hands song and he wanted me to keep singing it.  I also made up our own when I couldn’t remember how it went.

Thursday 7.14.16 Activity/Art
We tried using fruitloops for aim, but he wanted to eat them, so we may try some cheerios instead this day.
How it Went:
We didn’t get this.

Friday 7.15.16 Field Trip/Food
We’ll probably actually do our field trip on Thursday at our playdate and although I’m planning to put him in a diaper, we will try our friend’s potty out.  In some of my reading about potty training I’ve heard that a different toilet can cause problems, but we’re going to try to nip that in the butt.
I attribute his desire to potty train to this book (See Inside the Body), it helped him visually understand the how and the why which prompted him to try. The treats didn't hurt either. :)

How it Went:
We did do our play date, but we didn’t go potty at our friend’s house.

Saturday 7.16.16 Science/Sensory
We are going to practice washing our hands and play in the water too!
How it Went:
We did last week’s weather activities!

Week 15: Weather/Seasons Plans and How it Went

Week 15: Weather

July 3rd- 9th
June we studied about the Outdoors and this week we’re specifically studying about Weather (and Seasons) this week.  We swapped Weather for 4th of July topic because I wanted to wait for my new weather book to come. These lesson plans are mostly for my 3 year old son, but I’m adapting them to my 1 year old daughter as well.  They can be adapted for any age.  I have more ideas on pinterest.

Monday 7.4.16 Books     Happy 4th of July!
This is the reason, I may switch the topic.  We have these fun new Usborne books that were just released that are about weather, so I may wait until my order is delivered, so we can use them!  Here are a few books though.  We do have See Inside Weather and Climate and I have no doubt my son will love it because he is loving the See Inside series lately.  Our World has a picture of the trees in the different seasons.  I usually like to have 3 books, so we probably do Weather next week.
How it Went:
We did a field trip to the 4th of July celebration in Meridian.  My son had a blast on the bouncy house.

Tuesday 7.5.16 Library/Learning
I think my kiddos are finally over their colds, so we’ll most likely be going to the library this day.  We will also talk about different seasons and different kinds of basic weather.  We aren’t planning to go into tornadoes, hurricanes, and volcanoes unless he wants to talk about them. :)
How it Went:
He really liked our books!  He was more interested in the seasons.  He really enjoyed the clouds and rain as well.  We mentioned storms, but not hurricanes and tornadoes.

Wednesday 7.6.16 Music/Library
We are going to sing some songs about weather and seasons.
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/317503842462806690/ If it’s Windy and you Know it
How it Went:
We had a fun time with the songs.  He wanted me to sing the seasons songs a few times.

Thursday 7.7.16 Activity/Art
Below is what I eventually want to do, but I’m not super crafty.  For now, we’ll probably just use a piece of paper to refer to the weather each day.
How it Went:
I forgot to do snowy, haha!  You think I would remember since we live in a place where it snows.  I put partly cloudy and not snowy, seriously, I wasn’t thinking clearly.

Friday 7.8.16 Field Trip/Food
I can’t really think of a field trip to do.  We could go to the park and talk about whatever weather is happening then, but we may just do something to do with food.  I was thinking we could use marshmallows like clouds or whipped frosting.  We may “paint” with whipped frosting.  That would also be a fun sensory activity. :)
How it Went:
We didn’t do this on this day, but we still got to it!  He loved it!  We used whipped frosting and talked about storms and made one.  He also really loves the Bible Stories book about Jonah and the Whale because there is a storm (and because Jonah is inside of a whale). We used food coloring for the storm and the clouds.  We talked about 3 types of clouds; stratus, cirrus, cumulus and how they each look different.  He loved eating the frosting and had a blast getting it all over his hands.
The different kinds of clouds

Our Storm and different kinds of clouds.

Saturday 7.9.16 Science/Sensory
I think we are going to do shaving cream rain clouds!  I’m excited for my son to see it, I’m not sure if my daughter will love it yet.  I hope we can find liquid food coloring if I didn’t bring ours to Boise (where we are living for 3 months).
 Shaving Cream clouds
Our 4th could turned into an ocean. :)
How it went:
So my hubby bought the stuff for this, but got blue shaving cream instead of white, so we changed out activity.  I think it turned out more fun for the kiddos though because they got to play with the shaving cream instead of just look at it.  It was more of a sensory activity.  Although, another time I really want to do the one we planned to.

Week 14: 4th of July Plans and How it Went

Week 14: 4th of July

June 26th- July 2nd
In July we are studying about the Safety, but this week we are studying about the holiday, the 4th of July.

Monday 6.27.16 Books
Again, the books I want to read I either didn’t bring or they haven’t been release yet.  I don’t think one comes out until September.  It’s like I love you Animally if you’ve seen that one except it’s Americanly and goes across the US.  The other one that I think will be officially released soon is Timelines of World History!  I’m SUPER excited for that one!  I just thought of some more we could use that are pretty close - Atlas type books and world books.  Another one we can use is Cities of the World and this time around focus on just Us cities.  Oh and World War books.  We’ll be using The Usborne Encyclopedia of World History (one of my son’s favorites), Cities of the World, and My First Reference Book about Our World.
How it Went:
When we went to the library to check out books, there weren’t anymore 4th of July ones left.  We did use the Cities of the World, an out of print Atlas, and the reference book Our World.  My son had a hard time paying attention.

Tuesday 6.28.16 Library/Learning
We will definitely be learning more about the 4th of July at the library and I can’t get a card yet since we recently moved and haven’t yet received mail in our name, so it will be at the library.
How it Went:
We talked about how we won our independence and freedom.  I feel like he should totally understand that because he’s in that phase where he wants his independence. :)

Wednesday 6.29.16 Music/Library
We’re planning to go to the library this day as well.  We’ll definitely be singing The Star Spangled Banner and I also want to sing America the Beautiful and My Country ‘Tis of Thee, but I’m going to try to add a song more for my kiddos too.
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/234539093071415847/ Red, White, and Blue and Wave a Little Flag are the names of the songs.
How it Went:
We didn’t sing the little kid song, but we sang the other 3 several times and they loved them!

Thursday 6.30.16 Activity/Art
I think we’ll try one of the art activities below!  Either using a straw to paint fireworks or the salt paint one sounds fun too!
How it Went:
We didn’t get this.

Friday 7.1.16 Field Trip/Food
We’ll probably go to the parade for the 4th of July! :)
How it Went:
We didn’t get to this either, but there wasn’t one this day.

Saturday 7.2.16 Science/Sensory
We’ll probably do something with food for our sensory.  I love the star watermelon idea with blue berries.  Although the bottom link is fun for a science activity!
How it Went:
We didn’t get to this either.
