Week 8: My Family plan

*We totally missed last week!  We had family over and I didn't get a chance to plan.  It helped me realized we do need to have a plan or we don't learn things the way we want to.  Last week was really busy and not very helpful for learning especially without a plan.*

I want to get a board where it states the weather, day of the week, month, letter of the week, we’ll also practice numbers by what day it is (Jan 4th).  I may try to incorporate colors weekly.  I may add more, but that is all I can think of right now.  I’m debating about making one or buying one still.  I’m not super crafty, so I’m thinking I may buy one. Almost all of the books we read are Usborne Books. We are in LOVE with them!  I also sell them, so if you would like more info. let me know! :)  Starting next time, I’m just going to have the link to my Usborne website right here only and have pictures of the books.  Then if you want to check them out you can click the link and search the name of the book.  Here’s the link: h4006.myubam.com

Week 8: My Family

February 28th-March 5th
This month we are studying the World.  So we are studying about some random things that have to do with things inside the world (like family ;)), outside of including the world (like space), or things that use to live in the world (like dinosaurs). These lesson plans are mostly for my 2.5 year old son, but I’m adapting them to my 9 month old daughter.  They can be adapted for any age.  I have more ideas on pinterest.

Monday 2.29.16 Books
These books aren’t about families, but talk about people in families which is our focus right now.  My First 100 Words, the book that talks about families is called People.  My son today on our way to church didn’t realize we were a family (his mom, dad, sister, and him).  So we’re going to learn about that.  He understands family like mom, dad, and cousins, but doesn’t realize that is a family.  So that will be our focus.

Tuesday 3.1.16 Library/Learning
We have a doctor’s appointment this day, so we will probably talk about family (extended and immediate) since we’ll be on our way to visit family! :)

Wednesday 3.2.16 Music/Library
I know they don’t have a music and movement at the library near where our family lives, so we may have our long awaited dance party (with family)!

Thursday 3.3.16 Activity/Art
Again we’re going to do what we have tried to do for several weeks now, make something for my kiddo’s uncle on a mission.  We’ll send him a card with pictures my son has colored.

Friday 3.4.16 Field Trip/Food
We’ll be traveling home this day, so if we have time, we’ll stop by Thanksgiving Point and see if dad can meet up with us and do something as a family! :)

Saturday 3.5.16 Science/Sensory
We will probably choose a Science Activity from 365 Science Activities and ask dad to do it with us!  We’ll probably also try to get to the park for a sensory activity for my daughter if the weather stays warm!  We had a blast last week at the park!

Week 7: Valentine's Day Plans and How it Went 2016

I want to get a board where it states the weather, day of the week, month, letter of the week, we’ll also practice numbers by what day it is (Jan 4th).  I may try to incorporate colors weekly.  I may add more, but that is all I can think of right now.  I’m debating about making one or buying one still.  I’m not super crafty, so I’m thinking I may buy one. We use magnet numbers and letters each week as well.

Week 7: Valentine’s Day

February 14th-February 20th
This month we are studying All About Me, but this week since Valentine’s Day was this week, we’re going to focus on the holiday!  These lesson plans are mostly for my 2.5 year old son, but I’m adapting them to my 8 month old daughter.  They can be adapted for any age.  I have more ideas on pinterest, you can check them out by topic usually, but this one is mostly under February Fun for Toddlers (but it applies to older kids too).

Monday 2.15.16 Books
We don’t really have any great books for Valentine’s Day, so we will read some books that have to do with love.  We’ll read Cuddle Bear again.  We will also read The Children Who Loved Books and Animally.  We’ll be getting Nibbles sometime this week!!!  It just came out and is seriously adorable, so we’ll read that one as well even though it doesn’t have to do with love.  We are also planning to go to Thanksgiving Point and go to the Dinosaur Museum! :)

How it Went:
We read Cuddle Bear and Nibbles!  He loves both of those books and would have loved Animally because he LOVES animals, but I forgot to get them out.

Tuesday 2.16.16 Library/Learning
We are going to a storytime that one of my friends is doing at Chick-fil-a.  We will also talk about how Valentine’s Day came about and why.
How it Went:
We didn’t talk about Valentine’s Day, but we did go to a very fun story time in Orem!  The theme was the farm!

Wednesday 2.17.16 Music/Library
We will probably try to go the library this day and do music time.  We will listen to, dance to, and/or talk about love songs as well!
How it Went:
We didn’t get to this.  My son started feeling sick.

Thursday 2.18.16 Activity/Art
We’re going to do a really simple activity with paper towels cut in the shape of a heart with food coloring.
How it Went:
Again we didn’t get to this. :(

Friday 2.19.16 Field Trip/Food
This is going to be an incredibly busy day for me.  I’m hosting an Usborne Coloring and Cupcakes party at my house, so this is my prep day since it’s early the next morning.  I’m not going to play anything.  If you’re looking for an activity, I would do the traditional, but always fun sugar cookies and frosting Valentine’s style!
How it Went:
He at frosting with me instead of helping me with the cupcakes.

Saturday 2.20.16 Science/Sensory
I think our Thursday activity is sort of science-y and sensory.  Again, I’m not planning anything to see how it goes! :)
How it Went:
It was perfect because we didn’t plan anything and we did just that. :)

Week 6: Emotions/Feelings Plan and How it Went 2016

*I'll add some pictures from Monday later.

Week 6: Emotions

February 7th-February 13th
This month our theme is All About Me!  We are learning about our emotions this week.  We will also focus on a letter and a number.  Our letter this week is D and our number is 3 (we started with 0, weird, I know). These lesson plans are mostly for my 2.5 year old son, but I’m adapting them to my 8 month old daughter.  They can be adapted for any age.  I have more ideas on pinterest.

Monday 2.8.16 Books
We’ll read My First Work Book About Me.  The last 2 pages of this book is What I feel and talks about emotions as well as cold, hungry, etc.  We’ll also read one of my favorite books, Cuddle Bear!  It deals with some of our emotions and suggests that a remedy for those emotions is a hug!  It’s a great story with beautiful illustrations.  Not to mention that a portion of the proceeds are donated.  The story behind it is really neat, I’ll add the flyer below.  We’re also planning to read Five-Minute Bedtime Stories.  This books just come out last month!  It deals with feelings as well.  We might also read Aesop’s Stories for Little Children.  This book talks a lot about morals and how when we do the right thing like say sorry or are nice to someone it helps us feel better inside!  Definitely something major I want my son to understand!
Picture of Five-Minute Bedtime StoriesPicture of Cuddle BearPicture of My First Word Book About MePicture of Aesop's Stories for Little ChildrenPicture of My First 100 Words

How it Went:
We read Cuddle Bear, About Me, and the little book called People from My First 100 Words because Livie was with us and she needed something shorter.  We LOVE Cuddle Bear!  My son had fun pointing out emotions.  We also went to the story time my friend and I do.  All About Me was also the theme!  We did an activity where you draw a body outline and put stickers that describe yourself.  So for my son I put lions, books, etc.  The other we activity was outline their hands and we used the Fingerprint Activities book to put their fingerprints inside each finger.

Tuesday 2.9.16 Library/Learning
I think we’ll look up some faces of people online and see if he can guess what they’re feeling. We’ll talk a little bit more in depth about the feelings and emotions and maybe positive way to handle feeling mad for example (instead of throwing a fit). We probably won’t go to the library due to morning plans.
How it Went:
He was able to identify a lot of the feelings by the pictures of faces, cartoon and real, but he confused most things with sad and happy.  For example he often thought worried or tired were sad.  He would think that surprised was happy.

Wednesday 2.10.16 Music/Library
We are planning to go the library for music time.  Maybe we’ll finally get our dance party in as well!  We’ll talk a little about the way we feel as we listen to different kinds of music.
How it Went:
We didn’t end up going to music time.  My daughter has a been a little sick. We did do a dance party Monday night.  My son loved it!  He was up in front right by the band doing his own thing! :)

Thursday 2.11.16 Activity/Art
We may play a game making faces at each other and guessing based on the face we make how each other is feeling.  I’m not sure if this is a developmentally appropriate activity, if not we’ll switch it up.
How it Went:
We didn’t get to this either.

Friday 2.12.16 Field Trip/Food
We’re planning to go to Thanksgiving Point with friends. I’m sure my son will run into some emotions there and we can identify how he is feeling and talk about appropriate ways to handle those emotions.
How it Went:
We did go to Thanksgiving Point with friends.  Through the week I tried to identify his emotions and we discussed how to handle our emotions.  We talked about it being okay to feel different emotions, but how we need to have appropriate actions for emotions.  For example, if we feel mad that it is not okay to hit and kick, etc.

Saturday 2.13.16 Science/Sensory
In 365 Science Activities there are activities that have to with senses on pages 92 and 93.  I think we’ll do the one with taste and smell.  We might do touch and hearing also. We’ll see.  That’s the closest I could find to a science activity that has to do with emotions! :)  My 8 month old daughter will have a sensory basket filled with different things to touch and see!
How it Went:
We didn’t get to this.  We had family come into town so our focus was on them! :)
