Week 15: Weather/Seasons Plans and How it Went

I want to get a board where it states the weather, day of the week, month, letter of the week, we’ll also practice numbers by what day it is (Jan 4th).  I may try to incorporate colors weekly.  I may add more, but that is all I can think of right now.  I’m debating about making one or buying one still.  I’m not super crafty, so I’m thinking I may buy one. Almost all of the books we read are Usborne Books. We are in LOVE with them!  I also sell them, so if you would like more info. let me know! :)  If you want to check the books out that I mention, you can click the link and search the name of the book.  Here’s the link: h4006.myubam.com

Week 15: Weather

July 3rd- 9th
June we studied about the Outdoors and this week we’re specifically studying about Weather (and Seasons) this week.  We swapped Weather for 4th of July topic because I wanted to wait for my new weather book to come. These lesson plans are mostly for my 3 year old son, but I’m adapting them to my 1 year old daughter as well.  They can be adapted for any age.  I have more ideas on pinterest.

Monday 7.4.16 Books     Happy 4th of July!
This is the reason, I may switch the topic.  We have these fun new Usborne books that were just released that are about weather, so I may wait until my order is delivered, so we can use them!  Here are a few books though.  We do have See Inside Weather and Climate and I have no doubt my son will love it because he is loving the See Inside series lately.  Our World has a picture of the trees in the different seasons.  I usually like to have 3 books, so we probably do Weather next week.
How it Went:
We did a field trip to the 4th of July celebration in Meridian.  My son had a blast on the bouncy house.

Tuesday 7.5.16 Library/Learning
I think my kiddos are finally over their colds, so we’ll most likely be going to the library this day.  We will also talk about different seasons and different kinds of basic weather.  We aren’t planning to go into tornadoes, hurricanes, and volcanoes unless he wants to talk about them. :)
How it Went:
He really liked our books!  He was more interested in the seasons.  He really enjoyed the clouds and rain as well.  We mentioned storms, but not hurricanes and tornadoes.

Wednesday 7.6.16 Music/Library
We are going to sing some songs about weather and seasons.
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/317503842462806690/ If it’s Windy and you Know it
How it Went:
We had a fun time with the songs.  He wanted me to sing the seasons songs a few times.

Thursday 7.7.16 Activity/Art
Below is what I eventually want to do, but I’m not super crafty.  For now, we’ll probably just use a piece of paper to refer to the weather each day.
How it Went:
I forgot to do snowy, haha!  You think I would remember since we live in a place where it snows.  I put partly cloudy and not snowy, seriously, I wasn’t thinking clearly.

Friday 7.8.16 Field Trip/Food
I can’t really think of a field trip to do.  We could go to the park and talk about whatever weather is happening then, but we may just do something to do with food.  I was thinking we could use marshmallows like clouds or whipped frosting.  We may “paint” with whipped frosting.  That would also be a fun sensory activity. :)
How it Went:
We didn’t do this on this day, but we still got to it!  He loved it!  We used whipped frosting and talked about storms and made one.  He also really loves the Bible Stories book about Jonah and the Whale because there is a storm (and because Jonah is inside of a whale). We used food coloring for the storm and the clouds.  We talked about 3 types of clouds; stratus, cirrus, cumulus and how they each look different.  He loved eating the frosting and had a blast getting it all over his hands.
The different kinds of clouds

Our Storm and different kinds of clouds.

Saturday 7.9.16 Science/Sensory
I think we are going to do shaving cream rain clouds!  I’m excited for my son to see it, I’m not sure if my daughter will love it yet.  I hope we can find liquid food coloring if I didn’t bring ours to Boise (where we are living for 3 months).
 Shaving Cream clouds
Our 4th could turned into an ocean. :)
How it went:
So my hubby bought the stuff for this, but got blue shaving cream instead of white, so we changed out activity.  I think it turned out more fun for the kiddos though because they got to play with the shaving cream instead of just look at it.  It was more of a sensory activity.  Although, another time I really want to do the one we planned to.

Week 14: 4th of July Plans and How it Went

I want to get a board where it states the weather, day of the week, month, letter of the week, we’ll also practice numbers by what day it is (Jan 4th).  I may try to incorporate colors weekly.  I may add more, but that is all I can think of right now.  I’m debating about making one or buying one still.  I’m not super crafty, so I’m thinking I may buy one. Week 14: 4th of July

June 26th- July 2nd
In July we are studying about the Safety, but this week we are studying about the holiday, the 4th of July.  This topic is going to be a little harder since Usborne is a company that started in the US.  Kane Miller is another publisher that is part of Usborne and they have a few US type things.  These lesson plans are mostly for my 3 year old son, but I’m adapting them to my 1 year old daughter as well.  They can be adapted for any age.  I have more ideas on pinterest.

Monday 6.27.16 Books
Again, the books I want to read I either didn’t bring or they haven’t been release yet.  I don’t think one comes out until September.  It’s like I love you Animally if you’ve seen that one except it’s Americanly and goes across the US.  The other one that I think will be officially released soon is Timelines of World History!  I’m SUPER excited for that one!  I just thought of some more we could use that are pretty close - Atlas type books and world books.  Another one we can use is Cities of the World and this time around focus on just Us cities.  Oh and World War books.  We’ll be using The Usborne Encyclopedia of World History (one of my son’s favorites), Cities of the World, and My First Reference Book about Our World.
How it Went:
When we went to the library to check out books, there weren’t anymore 4th of July ones left.  We did use the Cities of the World, an out of print Atlas, and the reference book Our World.  My son had a hard time paying attention.

Tuesday 6.28.16 Library/Learning
We will definitely be learning more about the 4th of July at the library and I can’t get a card yet since we recently moved and haven’t yet received mail in our name, so it will be at the library.
How it Went:
We talked about how we won our independence and freedom.  I feel like he should totally understand that because he’s in that phase where he wants his independence. :)

Wednesday 6.29.16 Music/Library
We’re planning to go to the library this day as well.  We’ll definitely be singing The Star Spangled Banner and I also want to sing America the Beautiful and My Country ‘Tis of Thee, but I’m going to try to add a song more for my kiddos too.
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/234539093071415847/ Red, White, and Blue and Wave a Little Flag are the names of the songs.
How it Went:
We didn’t sing the little kid song, but we sang the other 3 several times and they loved them!

Thursday 6.30.16 Activity/Art
I think we’ll try one of the art activities below!  Either using a straw to paint fireworks or the salt paint one sounds fun too!
How it Went:
We didn’t get this.

Friday 7.1.16 Field Trip/Food
We’ll probably go to the parade for the 4th of July! :)
How it Went:
We didn’t get to this either, but there wasn’t one this day.

Saturday 7.2.16 Science/Sensory
We’ll probably do something with food for our sensory.  I love the star watermelon idea with blue berries.  Although the bottom link is fun for a science activity!
How it Went:
We didn’t get to this either.

Week 13: Nature Plans and How it Went

I want to get a board where it states the weather, day of the week, month, letter of the week, we’ll also practice numbers by what day it is (Jan 4th).  I may try to incorporate colors weekly.  I may add more, but that is all I can think of right now.  I’m debating about making one or buying one still.  I’m not super crafty, so I’m thinking I may buy one. Week 13: Nature

June 19th- 25th
This month we are studying about the Outdoors and we’re specifically studying about Nature this week.  We were going to break it down into plants and bugs (so we’re combining them), but we have two weeks left this month and we still want to study weather.  We had other priorities this month with a wedding and my Usborne Convention.  These lesson plans are mostly for my 3 year old son, but I’m adapting them to my 1 year old daughter as well.  They can be adapted for any age.  I have more ideas on pinterest.

Monday 6.20.16 Books
We’ll be studying books about plants (trees, flowers, etc) and bugs.  We have lots of great books covering these topics.  We’ll be using the ones I have with me.  The ones I have with me are How do Flowers grow, Living World Encyclopedia, and Too Many Tomatoes.  I thought I brought some of our bug books, but I guess not specifically at least.
How it Went:
We read the books mentioned above, but also read Peek Inside the Garden and Finger Trail Playbook Garden for my daughter.  As always, they loved the books!  I really like starting with books about the subject we are learning because it helps my son’s interest to peak about the topic.  He gets more and more excited because he knows more about it. :)

Tuesday 6.21.16 Library/Learning
We’ll probably head to the the library for storytime and then we’ll discuss the different kinds of plants; trees, flowers, bushes and talk about many different types of bugs too.  My 3 year old has been very interested in bugs lately.
How it Went:
He doesn’t really love to talk about bugs, but he is really interested in them when he sees them.  He was more interested in bug conversation than the plants conversation.

Wednesday 6.22.16 Music/Library
We’re planning to go to library music time, but we will also sing some songs about bugs and plants!
How it Went:
He had me sing the Baby Bumblebee song probably 5 or more times.  He’s starting to try to sing songs with me and he also like the Ants Come Marching song!

Thursday 6.23.16 Activity/Art
We’re going to talk about what plants need to grow and makes pictures explaining it like this.  Although we’ll probably just draw it instead of print.
How it Went:
We didn’t get to this activity.

Friday 6.24.16 Field Trip/Food
I think we’ll go to the park and catch some bugs, hopefully just potato bugs. :)  I also want my son to be able to plant a seed and watch it grow!
How it Went:
We didn’t get to this either, although it is still on my to-do list.  I think he will appreciate and be so much more fascinated with plants if he can watch one grow.

Saturday 6.25.16 Science/Sensory
We’re going to have chocolate pudding with gummy worms!   https://www.pinterest.com/pin/317503842455287952/
How it Went:
Both of my kids LOVED this!  There’s chocolate so of course.  :)  We talked about how worms help.  I’ve seen some people use Oreos for rocks too.
