*I'll add some pictures from Monday later.
I want to get a board where it states the weather, day of the week, month, letter of the week, we’ll also practice numbers by what day it is (Jan 4th). I may try to incorporate colors weekly. I may add more, but that is all I can think of right now. I’m debating about making one or buying one still. I’m not super crafty, so I’m thinking I may buy one. Almost all of the books we read are Usborne Books. We are in LOVE with them! I also sell them, so if you would like more info. let me know! :) Starting next time, I’m just going to have the link to my Usborne website right here only and have pictures of the books. Then if you want to check them out you can click the link and search the name of the book. Here’s the link: h4006.myubam.com
Week 6: Emotions
February 7th-February 13th
This month our theme is All About Me! We are learning about our emotions this week. We will also focus on a letter and a number. Our letter this week is D and our number is 3 (we started with 0, weird, I know). These lesson plans are mostly for my 2.5 year old son, but I’m adapting them to my 8 month old daughter. They can be adapted for any age. I have more ideas on pinterest.
Monday 2.8.16 Books
We’ll read My First Work Book About Me. The last 2 pages of this book is What I feel and talks about emotions as well as cold, hungry, etc. We’ll also read one of my favorite books, Cuddle Bear! It deals with some of our emotions and suggests that a remedy for those emotions is a hug! It’s a great story with beautiful illustrations. Not to mention that a portion of the proceeds are donated. The story behind it is really neat, I’ll add the flyer below. We’re also planning to read Five-Minute Bedtime Stories. This books just come out last month! It deals with feelings as well. We might also read Aesop’s Stories for Little Children. This book talks a lot about morals and how when we do the right thing like say sorry or are nice to someone it helps us feel better inside! Definitely something major I want my son to understand!
How it Went:
We read Cuddle Bear, About Me, and the little book called People from My First 100 Words because Livie was with us and she needed something shorter. We LOVE Cuddle Bear! My son had fun pointing out emotions. We also went to the story time my friend and I do. All About Me was also the theme! We did an activity where you draw a body outline and put stickers that describe yourself. So for my son I put lions, books, etc. The other we activity was outline their hands and we used the Fingerprint Activities book to put their fingerprints inside each finger.
Tuesday 2.9.16 Library/Learning
I think we’ll look up some faces of people online and see if he can guess what they’re feeling. We’ll talk a little bit more in depth about the feelings and emotions and maybe positive way to handle feeling mad for example (instead of throwing a fit). We probably won’t go to the library due to morning plans.
How it Went:
He was able to identify a lot of the feelings by the pictures of faces, cartoon and real, but he confused most things with sad and happy. For example he often thought worried or tired were sad. He would think that surprised was happy.
Wednesday 2.10.16 Music/Library
We are planning to go the library for music time. Maybe we’ll finally get our dance party in as well! We’ll talk a little about the way we feel as we listen to different kinds of music.
How it Went:
We didn’t end up going to music time. My daughter has a been a little sick. We did do a dance party Monday night. My son loved it! He was up in front right by the band doing his own thing! :)
Thursday 2.11.16 Activity/Art
We may play a game making faces at each other and guessing based on the face we make how each other is feeling. I’m not sure if this is a developmentally appropriate activity, if not we’ll switch it up.
How it Went:
We didn’t get to this either.
Friday 2.12.16 Field Trip/Food
We’re planning to go to Thanksgiving Point with friends. I’m sure my son will run into some emotions there and we can identify how he is feeling and talk about appropriate ways to handle those emotions.
How it Went:
We did go to Thanksgiving Point with friends. Through the week I tried to identify his emotions and we discussed how to handle our emotions. We talked about it being okay to feel different emotions, but how we need to have appropriate actions for emotions. For example, if we feel mad that it is not okay to hit and kick, etc.
Saturday 2.13.16 Science/Sensory
In 365 Science Activities there are activities that have to with senses on pages 92 and 93. I think we’ll do the one with taste and smell. We might do touch and hearing also. We’ll see. That’s the closest I could find to a science activity that has to do with emotions! :) My 8 month old daughter will have a sensory basket filled with different things to touch and see!
How it Went:
We didn’t get to this. We had family come into town so our focus was on them! :)
